Barbara Walters…’You cannot trust the Kardashians’

Daniel Craig must not have had a hand in helping Barbara Walters select this year’s “10 Most Fascinating People of 2011,” which included the Kardashian clan among its bold-faced names.

The actor, who slammed the reality TV family as a bunch of “f—king idiots” late last month, was not on Walters’ annual list, and even Walters herself admitted that her decision to include the Kardashians over other public figures was “controversial.”

“People love the fact that nothing in their lives is private,” she told Entertainment Weekly of her choice. “The wedding had an impact. The fact that, through it all, they’re a family.”

Walters further elaborated on Tuesday night’s “Late Show With David Letterman,” saying the fascination comes from keeping pace with the busy clan.

“They were the first ones we interviewed and we did them in September,” she said. “We said, ‘Anything going to happen?’ ‘No, no, no, you can do it now because nothing’s going to happen.’ Then Kim gets married. Then Kourtney gets pregnant. Then Khloé’s moving to Dallas. You cannot trust the Kardashians.”

The TV journalist interviewed Kim, Khloe, Kourtney and mother Kris Jenner back in September, prior to Kim’s wedding and Kourtney’s second pregnancy – but the women still had plenty to talk about.

They assigned each other superlatives, including who’s street smart (Khloe), book smart (Kourtney) and who has the largest ego (no surprise, Kim).

And when Walters asked a few pointed questions, they were game to respond in kind.

“You don’t really act. You don’t sing. You don’t dance,” Walters began. “You don’t have any – forgive me – any talent.”

Kim spoke up first, defending her family’s right to fame.

“It’s more of a challenge for you to go on a reality show and get people to fall in love with you for being you,” she said.
